Coming from the UK there is a perception that everyone enjoys the same freedoms, rights, priviledges and redresses as ‘at home’.
Not so.
It came as a very big shock to realise that things like Bank Accounts in Spain are not secure, Bank charges are made up on the spot, erratic but irreversible according to the whim of the bank, and that the very instruments of government are laws unto themself. Now you may think these are the ramblings of some beared conspiracy theorist who sits in a RV all day and claims the government is out to get us all.
Couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m Public School educated in the UK, have a strong moral compass which meant I always ended up declaring my earnings and never tried to dodge my taxes and ran a small-ish business in a leafy Tory heartland in Hertfordshire in the South East of England from 1990. My wife and I plus the dog and two cats committed to emigrating to southern Spain immediately the Brexit vote came in. Prior to that we’d been happily travelling to and fro when we felt like it, always planning to move here ‘one day’ but having our hands forced when it became clear we would have to choose one or the other in 2018. So, we chose. This is the story!
